There’s something so special about being part of a creative community where everyone is in their element, making beautiful art together. I recently had the exhilaration of providing creative event photography for the “Moves Like Waters” dance intensive at The MANOR LDN. Besides the fact that I grew up dancing in studios as a young girl…watching the choreography of Madeleine Waters come to life was a cinematic whirlwind of talent and passion.

High-quality imagery does more than just document the day for your socials, it tells a story that evokes a feeling. For healers, makers, and event organizers, photography for creative communities provides the marketing images that bring an event to life for its potential customers. It captures those raw moments—from the playful interactions between dancers to the focused rehearsals—that show potential clients exactly what it feels like to be in the room where it happens.

There is a specific kind of magic that happens when a dancer connects with a piece of music. Watching Madeleine Waters’ choreography to “Vigilante Sh**” was a total soul-spark moment for me. As a photographer, my goal goes far beyond capturing a pose…I am always looking to capture the exhilaration of the movement. When I’m providing event photography for creative communities, I’m looking for those high-peak moments where the passion is palpable. It’s about freezing that split second where the artistry radiates from the dancer’s fingertips.

While the “final product” is stunning, the real story often lives in the quiet beats between the counts. I spent time snapping away at the playful interactions and the grit of the focused rehearsals, and the “getting ready/makeup time”. These raw, candid moments are what make a brand feel human and accessible. For healers and creatives, showing this “behind-the-scenes” process is vital because it builds that bridge of trust between the creator and the audience, showing the heart and soul that is going into every single detail.

One of the highlights of this intensive was watching other masters of their craft work. Having the amazing George Butler there on videography was like watching a cinematic magic moment unfold in real-time. We were both in our element—him with his lens, me with mine—working together to document this vibrant scene from every angle. This kind of collaboration is exactly why I love working with creative communities; there is a shared language of art that makes the final results truly epic. One of my favorite moments during the filming, I don’t know if I’ll ever forget it as long as I live: Part of what I am doing when I’m working events like this is being aware and conscious of other creatives working in the room (for example, I didn’t use any flash during this event because it would be dangerous for the dancers!) There was this moment where George is panning down the line of dancers from the right side of the room to the left, and I’m also photographing them. I have my eyes in my viewfinder of my camera, and then Madeleine puts her hand on my waist pushes me just ahead of Geroge…I felt like I was dancing as well! THIS is what makes working with fellow creative souls so special.

Atmosphere is everything. The MANOR LDN provided the most incredible backdrop for this event warm light, a welcoming vibe, and a sense of “home” for every creative who walked through the door. It felt like a cozy haven where everyone felt safe to push their limits and express themselves fully. I’m always looking for how the space interacts with the people, and this studio was the perfect partner for the “Moves Like Waters” energy.

At the end of the day, these photos are more than just memories (but memories are pretty dang important!); they are powerful tools to bring your work to life. For a workshop leader, healer, or maker, these images serve as an invitation to others to join the next experience. By capturing the spirit of the day—the prep, the tired smiles, and the electric talent—we create a visual narrative that inspires. I left feeling so grateful to be part of this whirlwind, and I’m so excited to see how these shots inspire the next wave of creative souls!
I love capturing the heart and spirit of creativity in every shot. Whether you’re a maker, a healer, or a creative director, let’s bring your community’s story to life! Reach out for details on how to book or view my portfolio here.
